Description
This is a 10 Rubles Assignat issued by the Russian Empire in 1829, falling within the 1819-1843 period of assignat circulation. (To the bearer of this State Assignat, our Assignation Bank shall pay TEN RUBLES in circulating coin.) These assignats were paper money introduced in Russia primarily to cover state budget deficits and facilitate trade, replacing metal currency in everyday transactions. The series from 1819 onwards represented an attempt to stabilize the depreciated assignats after the Napoleonic Wars. This particular note bears the serial number N° 311686 and signatures of the Manager and Cashier, important for authentication. It's a significant historical artifact representing the monetary system of Imperial Russia under Emperor Nicholas I.
