Description
A historical 5-ruble assignat issued by the Russian Empire in 1810. This banknote is printed on characteristic blue paper with black ink, clearly stating 'пять рублей ходячею монетою 1810 года' (five rubles in circulating coin of the year 1810). The serial number 'N° 5407978' is visible at the top and bottom. This particular issue falls within the 1786-1819 period, a time of significant financial upheaval and extensive issuance of paper money in Russia. The note bears handwritten signatures, including what appears to be a Director (Др. Б. Ионкин) and another official, indicating its authenticity. A large, bold, smudged handwritten symbol or signature dominates the central area, likely a control mark. These assignats played a crucial role in the Russian economy during the early 19th century, particularly amidst the Napoleonic Wars. Despite being issued in large quantities, notes in better condition are prized by collectors for their historical significance.
